It is, on rare occasions, called by the proper name "Seif" or "Alseiph" (Arabic السيف "al-sa'if" meaning "the sword"), derived from السيف و الأنفال "al-sa'if wa al-anfal", meaning "The Sword and the Spoils", which was the title of an ancientArab asterism between Andromeda and Perseus. Due to its isolation and distance from Cassiopeia, Andromeda and Perseus,John Flamsteed never took thought to assign a number and constellation to Phi Persei.Phi Persei is a blue
