Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) was founded in 1996 by the City of Philadelphia, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Pew Charitable Trusts. It is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote tourism and economic growth in Philadelphia and the surrounding four counties (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery). The GPTMC is funded through a Philadelphia County hotel tax, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Delaware River Port Authority, the William Penn Foundation [ [http://www.williampennfoundation.org The William Penn Foundation - Home ] ] and the Independence Foundation. Among GPTMC's activities, it encourages local, regional, and national travel reporters to write about tourism opportunities in Philadelphia. The corporation claims to have generated 2,971 stories in 2003, which reached an estimated 925 million people. It also produces and distributes advertising directed at potential visitors and event planners and creates and promotes hotel packages for special events.
