(formerly ZenZui) [2] is a mobile media company that partners with content and media companies to publish applications for smartphones, tablets, and other devices.[3] Zumobi's portfolio of mobile applications comprises The Zumobi Network.[4] It is a premium mobile app network with properties in multiple categories, such as news, sports, lifestyle and entertainment.[5]
As a co-publishing partner, Zumobi works with media companies such as msnbc.com, Bonnier Corporation, Source Interlink Media, Sporting News and Hearst Digital Media.[6] Zumobi publishes apps using its proprietary platform that offers customization, efficiency, social networking interoperability, and adaption across multiple mobile operating systems, including Apple’s iOS (iPhone, iPod touch and iPad), Android, BlackBerry, Palm’s webOS and Windows Phone.
Zumobi has a proprietary advertising platform, BrandBlast, for monetization opportunities through rich media advertising campaigns and sponsorships with specific, contextual placement in its apps.[7] Past advertisers on The Zumobi Network include Ford,[8] Mercedes-Benz, Unilever, Southwest Airlines, HP and Best Buy.[9]
Zumobi was founded in September 2006 and announced officially at CTIA in the end of March 2007.[10] Zumobi is a wholly independent company spun out of Microsoft Research via the Microsoft IP Ventures group.[11] The three founders are John SanGiovanni,[12] Dr. Ben Bederson and Jim Cooley. The CEO is Ken Willner.[13]
