Eyvind Alnæs (
April 29 ,1872 ,Fredrikstad –December 24 ,1932 ,Oslo ) was a Norwegiancomposer ,pianist , organist and choir director.Alnæs studied music first in
Oslo withIver Holter , then inLeipzig withCarl Reinecke and, after the premiere of his first symphony in 1896, inBerlin withJulius Ruthardt .From 1895 to 1907 Alnæs served as an organist in
Drammen , and then for many years played the organ in several churches and conductedchoir s in Oslo. He helped found the Norwegian Society of Composers.Alnæs wrote music in a late Romantic style, and his output included two symphonies, one set of symphonic variations, a
piano concerto , pieces forpiano , choral preludes for organ, choral works, and art songs (in Norwegian, "romanser").Discography
A number of songs by Alnæs have been recorded by the likes of
Kirsten Flagstad andFeodor Chaliapin . In 2007 the first recording of Alnæs's Piano Concerto in D major, Op. 27 was released; it featuredPiers Lane as the piano soloist and theBergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted byAndrew Litton .External links
