Paul Burston

Paul Burston (born in 1965 in Yorkshire) is a leading British gay journalist, broadcaster and author

Raised in Bridgend, Wales, Burston trained as a journalist, and presently edits the gay section of "Time Out" magazine. He also broadcasts and comments on gay issues, and writes on a wide variety of subjects for newspapers including The Independent on Sunday, The Times and The Guardian.

His first book was "A Queer Romance" (which he co-edited). This was followed by '"What Are You Looking At?", "Gutterheart - Life According To Marc Almond" and 'Queens' Country : A Tour Around the Gay Ghettos, Queer Spots and Camp Sights of Britain".

Burston published his first novel "Shameless" in 2001. It was shortlisted for a State of Britain Award and became a bestseller.

In 2006 he published a second novel "Star People", and in April 2007, a third "Lovers & Losers", which spawned its own club night, A Club For Lovers & Losers, as well as several versions of the fictional song at the heart of the story.

In June 2008, he made the Independent on Sunday Pink List of the most influential gay people in Britain for the second year running. In September 2007 he was nominated for a Stonewall Award for Best Writer alongside Russell T Davies and Val McDemid. [http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/this_britain/article2516664.ece]

Burston's fourth novel, "The Gay Divorcee", will be published by LittleBrown in May 2009.

Burston is also co-curator (with Rupert Smith) of the House of Homosexual Culture at the South Bank Centre. The House began its residency at the South Bank in July 2008 as part of the London Literature Festival.
