Gurazala is a semi town and mandal located in the northwestern parts of Guntur district. It is administrative hub(capitol) of region Palnadu. According to 2001 censes, it has 24,550 population made up of 12,430 male and 12,120 female.

The town represents MLA in the assembly, ACP and Sub Court (2nd to the district court) of the region.

History

This town is in the heart of Palnadu, and has a legendary history of over a thousand years. The famous battle Palnati Yudhdham (War of Palnadu) took place between Gurazala and Macherla between 1176 AD - 1182 AD.At Karampudi (yuddabhoomi). In many scripts the war was referred as Andhra Kurukshetra.

Temples

Tens of tempels make this town a spiritual place starting from Ishtakameshwaraswami temple located in the southern town was built by Nagamma in the 12th century.

Amaralingeshwara swami temple is located in the northern part of the town.

The town is connected by rail and bus roads.

Tourist Attractions

This town has a nearby cave temple popularly known as Daida Amaralingeswaraswami at the shore of sacred river Kirshna. The naturally formed cave has around 800m in length attracts many tourists from all around the state.

Famous Personalities

Many Andhra known popular personalities were born and/or brought up of this town. To name few...,

1. Bramha Naidu, lived in Gurazala but moved to Marcherla due to the internal disputes.

2. Nagamma, lead the army against Macherla in the war.

3. In Daiada There is Ravipati mutyam a great personility who ruled the village for 30 year at 1970,now their family members are, Ravipati Ragavaich chowdary, Ravipati Bushaiah chowdary(late) Thota Amara lingaiah

4. Kaneganti Hanumanthu was born in a near by village(Pallegunta), Gurazala taluka. He was a prominent Freedom fighter who rebelled against the British Rule [clarify] and started the Palnadu Rebellion against tax. He was shot dead by General Rutherford. Palnadu Rebellion was later carried forward by Manyam Struggle by Alluri Sita Rama Raju.

5. Kasu Bramhananda Reddy, Ex-CM lived and did his PUC/Intermediate in the Jr.College.

6. Chiranjivi (Megastar), popular Tollywood hero, lived in Gurazala and attended the Govt Elementary School for few days when he was a kid.

7. Jammigumpula Ramarao, Ex-Samiti President.

8. Jammigumpula Mangaiah, First mandal president.

9. Gurram Sudheer Reddy (MBBS), was born and brought up of this town has moved to the USA in early 80s.

10. Yechuri Venkateswarlu Freedom fighter.

11. Yechuri Padmavathi Srinivasa Rao, Current surpanch.
