Diesel multiple unit trains to be introduced byIarnród Éireann in Ireland.In a new departure for Iarnród Éireann they will be the first railcars to operate on express InterCity routes.

Mitsui ofJapan in an order totalling approximately €400 million, the fleet is being built by a partnership betweenRotem ofSouth Korea andTokyu Car Corporation of Japan, who supplied thebogies . The first sets were delivered in March 2007.The initial order for 120 vehicles was increased to 150 in 2005 for InterCity services. In March 2007, a €79 million order was placed for a further 33 vehicles to be used primarily on the outer Dublin commuter network. There are to be 46 sets in all: thirty-one 3-car sets and fifteen 6-car sets of two different layouts

The Class 22000 units are planned to be utilised on most of the main line routes from
Dublin , including services toSligo ,Limerick ,Rosslare Europort , Westport,Waterford andGalway . They will also serve on the regional InterCity services that do not terminate in Dublin. OnDecember 19th 2007 , the first trains began operating on services between Dublin and Sligo.
