The lone Legislative District of Shariff Kabunsuan and Cotabato City is the representation of the Province of Shariff Kabunsuan in the Philippine House of Representatives. Shariff Kabunsuan was part of the representation of Maguindanao prior to its creation in 2006. It will be granted its own representation in the 14th Congress. On July 16, 2008, the Supreme Court voided the creation of Shariff Kabunsuan. The SC ruling said that creation of province or a city “inherently involves the power to create a legislative district". The whole province and Cotabato City will now be merged back to Maguindanao and will be called First District of Maguindanao.
