Uyir is a
Tamil language feature film released in 2006 meaning "Life"."Sri Balaji Cine creations"(SBCC), a production house based inChennai produced this as its debut film. SBCC took a huge and bold risk to choose this revolutionary story which is normally not acceptable in India. The story revolves around a women (Arundhadhi-casted bySangeetha ) who falls in love with her brother in law ( husband's younger brother , Sundar-casted by Srikanth) after the demise of her husband. The film attracted a lot of controversy for its bold theme from the press. However, the women welfare organizations welcomed this viewing as an outcry for freedom of expression of Indian women.The producer R.Balaji and the Co-producer Singapore R Saravana explained the message under the story and were confident of making the audience accept.Finally, because of the underlying social message, the film convinced the audience and made a decent success in the box office. The film is directed by Samy.Plot
Sundar (Srikanth) moves in with his brother's family that consists of his brother, sister-in-law Arundathi (Sangeetha) and their little daughter. Sundar is very close to all three of them. Although Sundar reveres Arundathi a lot, Arundathi lusts for Sundar who is unaware of it.
Sundar drops his niece at school every day and he meets his girlfriend Anandi (Samvritha) there. When his brother gets to know about their relationship he is very excited about the same. Unfortunately, his brother commits suicide soon afterward due to some problems at work. Now Sundar is tied to taking care of his brother's family as Arundathi and her daughter have nowhere to go.
Arundathi keeps Anandi at bay by doing everything possible from her side. She tries her best to break Sundar's relationship with Anandi while subtly hinting to Sundar about her love for him. Anandi warns Sundar about his conniving Sister-in-Law but nothing comes out of it.she made them to break up
What happens to Sundar and Anandi? Does Arundathi succeed in foiling their love? All the questions form the rest of the story.
