Romema, Jerusalem

Romema is a neighbourhood in north-west Jerusalem, Israel.It is close to the main entrance to Jerusalem from the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem highway.

Romema was founded in 1921 near the site where the Turkish Army surrendered to General Allenby during World War I. The Allenby Memorial to British soldiers who fell in the fight for Palestine is at the top of Romema St [ [http://www.benkazez.com/dan/udi/books.html Udi Cain ] ] .

Romema is home to the Jerusalem branch of the Magen David Adom ambulance service, which serves Jerusalem and a region extending to Bet Shemesh [AFMDA - Mayor Bloomberg Dedicates MDA Jerusalem Station in Father's Memory [http://www.afmda.org/content/newsroom/mda%20news.aspx] ] , the Jerusalem Central Bus Station, the head office of Channel 1, and several large hotels such as the Jerusalem Gate Hotel.

Romema includes the former Jerusalem light industrial zone, which has been rezoned and redeveloped for residential use.
