Naini is a satellite locality/township of the city of Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India in the south-east.

History
Naini was infamous for its prison, Naini Jail, where many freedom fighters—including Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India—were imprisoned during the Freedom Movement.
On 18 February 1911, the second official Airmail flight in the world arrived in Naini from Allahabad. Henri Pequet carried 6,500 letters a distance of 13 km. This was the first commercial civil aviation flight in India.[1]
Geography
Naini is located on the banks of River Yamuna, opposite Allahabad City. To the north, across Ganga, is Jhunsi, which is a part of Allahabad itself. It is noteworthy that there are no direct paths or roadways between Jhusi and Naini. Mostly every basic thing of daily use is available.
Economy
After independence, Naini was developed into major industrial centre. Some of the most reputed industries in Naini are:
- Indian Telephone Industries Limited (ITI)
- Bharat Pumps and Compressors Limited (BPCL)
- Triveni Structurals Limited (TSL)
- Areva T&D India Ltd.
- SAIL
- Cotton Mills subsidiary of Central Government
Raymond has also started a polyester plant in Naini. COD: One of the Central Government's Arms and Ammunition Depot is located at Cheoki, Naini
Culture
Culture of Naini is typical that of Allahabad. Hindi, Awadhi, Urdu, and Bagheli are the languages that are spoken in Naini. A large mob associate at the naini ghat for Chhath puja and the since a large part of eatern people eg. bihar, jharkhand and eastern UP reside in naini due to the presence of industries that play a prominent role in economy of Allahabad, so the people from these regions generally speak bhojpuri. Arail is a place near Naini,where many Ashrams exists.Saint Shri Sachcha Baba,one of the pioneers, in the tradition of Saints of India,has his centre here in Arail.Many devotees from India and abroad come to visit this Ashram. Some of the ashram are also located at the naini ghat.

Transport
Naini is connected to Allahabad via 2 bridges over the river Yamuna. The older one was built in 1927, is a 2 lane bridge. The new one was completed in 2004. NH-2 joins the Naini to Rewa through Ghoorpur.
Tempos and autos are the main mode of travel in Naini-Allahabad. This route doesn't have a very frequent local bus service, but recently, UPSRTC has launched the city bus services, making easier the public transportation from Naini to other nearby places, including heart of the city.
Apart from Naini Railway, Cheooki station is also used but mainly it is used for transporting goods.
Trivia
A train makes a stop at Naini railway station in the movie "Mahal" famous for its song 'Ayega Aaana Wala" sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
