German Ugryumov

German Alexeyevich Ugryumov ( _ru. Герман Алексеевич Угрюмов; October 101948, Astrakhan, Soviet UnionMay 312001, Khankala, Chechnya, Russia) was a Soviet and Russian navy and security services official. Naval counterintelligence career

In 1972 he graduated from the Caspian Navy Higher School in Baku. Since 1975 he had served for the KGB and successor organizations to it. In 1976 he graduated from the Counterintelligence Higher School in Novosibirskru icon [http://www.specnaz.ru/archive/02_2002/14.htm АДМИРАЛ ФСБ] ] ru icon [http://www.whoiswho.ru/russian/Curnom/42001/konchin.htm КАДРОВАЯ ПАНОРАМА] . He had served for the Caspian Fleet counterintelligence in Baku until 1992 and worked in Azerbaijan during 1990 Black January.In 1992-1993 he led Black Sea Fleet counterintelligence in Novorossiysk. In 1993 he became the Chief of the Pacific Fleet counterintelligence.

When he was the Chief of the Pacific Fleet FSB Directorate responsible for the navy conterintelligence, he initiated the prosecution of journalist Captain Grigory Pasko on charges of the collection and storage of allegedly classified documents of the Pacific Fleet as well as their transfer to the Japanese NHK TV company and Asahi Shimbun newspaper. Pasko was arrested in Vladivostok on November 20 1997, as soon as he had returned from a trip to Japan. In 1998 new FSB Director Vladimir Putin promoted German Ugryumov to deputy Chief of the Military Counterintelligence Directorate of the FSB for Navy. Death

On May 312001, in Khankala, main Russian military base in Chechnya, Ugryumov died, according to the official version, of acute heart failure.
