London Irish Symphony Orchestra
- London Irish Symphony Orchestra
The London Irish Symphony Orchestra (LISO) is an Orchestra, founded in 2005 based in London, England.
The London Irish Symphony Orchestra is the only ensemble in the UK working solely to promote classical music of Irish origin. They showcase the talent of young musicians and composers of Irish birth, descent and heritage and work to encourage peace and reconciliation through cultural exchange and interaction.
The London Irish Symphony Orchestra was founded in 2005 by Nick Newland and Marion Wood to provide a forum for young musicians of Irish birth and descent to explore rarely performed repetoire by Irish composers.
They are the only orchestra in the UK promoting classical music of Irish origins. Most of their concerts include World or British Premieres. In the past year, these have included works by Seán Ó Riada, John Kinsella, Jonathan Lee and the Orchestra’s Composer in Residence - Solfa Carlile.
The orchestra gave its inaugural concert on Thursday 16th March 2006 at St Paul’s Church Knightsbridge. This event not only launched the orchestra, but was in aid of the London Irish Women’s Centre and was part of the Mayor of London’s official St Patrick’s Day Festival 2006.
