Charles A. Becker (February 8, 1925 – October 16, 1999) was an American food scientist who was a tireless contributor to the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT).

College and career

A native of Florida, Becker earned his B.S. in general agriculture and M.S. in dairy science from the University of Florida, then worked toward a Ph.D. at Michigan State University though he did not complete his Ph.D. at Michigan State. He would spend his career in the food industry, retiring as President of Roland Industries, Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri in 1996, a company he joined in 1977 as Vice President and Manager of the Specialty Foods Division. Throughout the industry, he was known for his leadership in quality assurance, marketing, and product development.

Involvement with IFT

A member of IFT from 1960 until his 1999 death, Becker served in two section as councilor (Mohawk Valley, St. Louis). He also was involved in the national IFT, serving in membership, finance, awards, and meeting site selection. Becker also served as assistant treasurer for four years and treasurer for three years as well. He would be named an IFT Fellow in 1988 and receive the Calvert L. Willey Award in 1995.

Other professional activities

Becker was also an active member of the American Association of Cereal Chemists, serving on the Board of Directors form 1983 to 1986 and acting as chair of that organization's Milling & Baking Division in 1983—4.

Death

Becker died in Kirkwood, Missouri.
