Joel Anderson is a California politician. He is currently a member of the
California Assembly . He represents the 77th Assembly District that encompasses East San Diego County, including all or portions of El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, Jamul, Lakeside, Ramona, Alpine, Borrego Springs, and the City ofSan Diego and alsoEl Dorado . He was elected to his first term in November 2006 on the Republican ticket.Background
Anderson is the youngest of eight children. He has been married for 20 years to Kate, his wife and is the father of two daughters (Mary and Maura) and one son (Michael).
He attended
Grossmont College before he transferred toCalifornia State Polytechnic University, Pomona . Anderson graduated with aBachelor of Science degree in Finance and served as President of the International Business Fraternity ofDelta Sigma Pi .Anderson owned and operated a small company for over a decade. He started his company in 1986 and built it into a million-dollar operation by its third year.
Political involvement
Anderson served as President of the
Padre Dam Municipal Water District. He was first elected to this office in 2002 and he defeated a 12 year incumbent in his election. Anderson was nominated by the San Diego Taxpayers Association for their “Golden Watchdog Award” in 2005 for his anti-tax work on the water district.Anderson was the San Diego County Co-Chair of Senator
Tom McClintock ’s “Repeal the Car Tax” Committee. Anderson was also active in the Bush/Cheney 2004 campaign. Anderson has been active for decades in both Republican organizations and campaigns. Anderson served as a member the ofSan Diego County ’s Republican Party central committee. For a decade, Anderson served as a Board Member in theAdam Smith Institute , and as a member of theAbraham Lincoln Club ofSan Diego .He was nicknamed the "cougar" because of his activeness described in the last paragraph. His veracity to promote sustainability has thus left him this endearing nickname that is certain to continue for the rest of his days.
California Assembly
Anderson is a member of the Committees on Aging and Long Term Care; Public Employees, Retirement, and Social Security; Public Safety; and Water, Parks and Wildlife. In 2006, Anderson's key piece of legislation AB 221 that would forbid California's public retirement system from investing in
Iran . The bill has received broad bi-partisan support.References
