To elevate the national dialogue on the topic of religion and evolution
To increase the awareness of The Clergy Letter [ [http://www.allianceforscience.org/files/active/0/zimmerman.ppt Clergy Letter Project] , Michael Zimmerman, powerpoint slides]The celebration originated in America in 2006 with 467 congregations from all 50 states and the District of Columbia participating. creationism , which claims a literal interpretation of theBible . Organiser Michael Zimmerman dismissed creationist claims that Christians must choose betweenreligion and science , and said “if you have enough faith, you don't need science to ratify God's existence”. The day grew out of theClergy Letter Project , a project began in 2004, where more than 11,100 Christianclergy have signed a pro-evolution letter, as of April 18, 2008.There are more than 100 sermons available on the Clergy Letter Project/Evolution Sunday website.
