Daniel 'Dani' Mallo Castro (born 25 January 1979 in Cambre, Galicia) is a Spanish footballer who plays for Girona FC in the Spanish second division, as a goalkeeper.

The better part of his senior career was played at Deportivo de La Coruña, where he served almost exclusively as third-choice in the first team.

Football career

Mallo spent most of his career as third-string goalkeeper with Deportivo de La Coruña (with a loan stint at second division side Elche CF in 2003–04), first appearing with the main squad on 5 May 2003, playing 20 minutes in a 5–0 home triumph over Recreativo de Huelva.

Released by Deportivo, he joined Portugal's Sporting Clube de Braga in 2006–07. Because of injury to first-choice Paulo Santos, Mallo played the first half of 2007–08, also appearing in the Portuguese and UEFA Cups.

In mid-January 2009, after having spent the first months of the new footballing campaign training separately, Mallo joined Falkirk FC, until the end of the 2008–09 season.[1] He played in the 2009 Scottish Cup Final, also helping the side to the semifinals in the domestic League Cup, and a final maintenance in the Scottish Premier League. Despite these achievements, he did not sign a new contract and left the club on June 27, stating he needed to move on.[2]

In July 2009, Mallo turned down a move to join former manager John Hughes at Hibernian FC, opting to return to Spain and sign with Girona FC, in the country's second division. In his first season, he deputised for former FC Barcelona's Albert Jorquera.
