Santos, a former Portugal youth international, debuted in the Portuguese first division in 1993-94, winning the league with
S.L. Benfica by playing 1 minute on the last game. After successful stints withC.F. Estrela da Amadora andF.C. Alverca , he went on to representF.C. Porto , with no significant impact.In 2005, Santos joined
Sporting Clube de Braga . During that first season, when Bragamidfielder Andrés Madrid deflected the ball in for anown goal , Santos was beaten for the first time in 595 minutes, just 40 minutes short of the record set by legendary Benfica goalkeeperManuel Bento . In the only other time he had conceded that season so far, Red Star claimed the away goal that ended Braga'sUEFA Cup campaign at the first round for the second year running.In 2007-08, after injury problems and contract disputes, Santos only appeared in 12 league matches. He was released at the end of the season.
International career
Santos won one cap for the national team, on
16 November 2005 , in a friendly match with Northern Ireland (1-1), inBelfast . He was called up to the 2006 World Cup as a late replacement for the injuredBruno Vale .Honours
