This is a list of municipalities in Connecticut in order of population from greatest to least. Connecticut's fundamental form of local government is the New England town. The state is composed of 169 towns. Nineteen of these towns are chartered as cities, in addition to one borough. These nineteen cities and one borough all share the same border with their namesake towns and have a merged city–town government.
