State Road 656 (also known as 17th Street Causeway) is a short
Florida State Road in Indian River County. It is formerly part of State Road 60. Until the completion of the New Merrill Barber Bridge, State Road 60 rerouted to that new bridge. The old bridge was signed as SR 656. It is only 2 miles long, from U.S. Route 1 to State Road A1A inside thecity limits of Vero Beach. Before the road crosses to thebarrier island , it intersects withIndian River County Road 603 . The road crosses theIntercoastal Waterway to Dark Point of thebarrier island . State Road 60 is 1.4 milesnorth of the bridge. Finally, it ends its 2mile journey at State Road A1A.West of U.S. Route 1
The road becomes an unsigned road west of US 1. It is longer than SR 656 and is called 16th
Street . Immediately west of theFlorida East Coast Railroad isIndian River County Road 605 . The road is now only 2 lanes wide like SR 510. It becomes a residential street beyond this point. Next, it passes another intersection ofIndian River County Road 607 . This road provides access toVero Beach Municipal Airport . Then, it intersects withIndian River County Road 611 , this road provides access to the farmlands of southern Indian River County and northern St. Lucie County. 1 blockwest of 56th Court is Kings Highway, the western terminus of 16th Street.###@@@KEYEND@@@###
