European Anti Poverty Network

The European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN - formed in 1990 and located in Brussels, Belgium [ [http://www.welcomeurope.com/default.asp?id=1520&idreseau=54 EAPN (European Anti Poverty Network) ] ] ), is an independent representative coalition and network of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and groups involved in the fight against and prevention of poverty and social exclusion in the Member States of the European Union [ [http://www.intute.ac.uk/socialsciences/cgi-bin/fullrecord.pl?handle=sosig948991728-26528 Intute: Social Sciences - Full record details for European Anti Poverty Network ] ] .

Supported by the European Commission, EAPN is a network of 22 national networks of voluntary organisations and grassroots groups active in the fight against poverty within each member state of the EU. EAPN has consultative status with the Council of Europe, and is a founding member of the Platform of European Social NGOs.

Core objectives

*To put the fight against poverty and social exclusion on the political agenda of the European Union
*To promote and enhance the effectiveness of actions against poverty and social exclusion
*To lobby for and with people and groups facing poverty and social exclusion

Activities

To address its objectives, the EAPN lobbies EU and EU Community institutions to develop and implement inclusive, anti-poverty policies and programmes, and keeps under close review Community policies and programmes likely to impact on groups facing poverty and social exclusion.

It also acts as a central EU forum for Anti Poverty focused NGO's, exchanging of information on EU and national level anti-poverty and exclusion policies; supports members in exchanging experiences and building partnerships; and provides training for its members. It is also forging links with anti-poverty NGOs in Central and Eastern Europe.

Resources

The EAPN publishes a monthly newsletter in English and French, which includes reports on current issues and posters on current campaigns.

The EAPN web site gives access to key EAPN and EU documents on social exclusion, and a database of over 1000 member organisations, available on the web site, to facilitate partnership building.
