Playing career

Early career

McNulty originally played as a striker for youths club Ballincollig, at the same club as future team mates Colin Healy and Alan Carey. He was the club's top scorer at every level from under-11 to under-17. He helped Ballincollig to League winning success at under-16 and under-18 level, being award Player of The Year at u16.

McNulty then moved to Cobh Ramblers for a brief spell, before joining Cork City's successful eircom Under-21 League side under Stuart Ashton. In his role as goalkeeper, McNulty was a vital part of the side that won back-to-back U21 League titles in 2003 and 2004.

Professional career

McNulty turned professional in 2006 and featured sporadically in vital matches such as the Setanta Cup.[2] Injury deprived him of appearing in the UEFA Cup in 2005 as he lost the opportunity created by first-choice 'keeper Mick Devine's injury. Goalkeeping coach and Cork City F.C. veteran Phil "Biscuits" Harrington filled in admirably against Lithuanian side FK Ekranas. In 2010, he became the first-choice 'keeper with City.[3]
