Write Angle

Write Angle

Write Angle was a global screenwriting contest organised by Sulekha.com and B4U Television and co-sponsored in the US by MetLife. It was a pioneering effort to battle the dearth of original screenplays in the Hindi film industry. According to its sponsors, the contest was a tremendous success, attracting more than 1800 entries from 50 countries. The prize money of $5000 was the largest amount ever awarded for a writing competition in India.

The contest opened on November, 2001 and closed on June, 2002.

Judges

Write Angle's panel of judges were the following movie-makers — Shyam Benegal, Javed Akhtar, Mahesh Bhatt, Mira Nair, Tanuja Chandra, Farookh Dhondy, John Matthew Mathan, Honey Irani and Santosh Sivan.

Winners

The winner of the contest was Praveen Madhukar Naik for his romantic comedy "Indian Beauty". The runners-up were Rajan Iyer for his world war drama "The Trenches" and Anand Sivakumaran for his comedy of errors titled "Ye Shadi Nahi Ho Sakti".
