Edward Barnes (born
December 16 ,1958 ) is an Americancomposer and producer.Edward Barnes studied music composition at the
Juilliard School with composersVincent Persichetti and David Diamond and at theDartington Hall in Great Britain with composer-conductorSir Peter Maxwell Davies . Early in his career he established himself as an opera composer, working in Boston as resident composer ofSarah Caldwell 'sOpera Company of Boston and later at theLos Angeles Opera . He eventually turned towards Broadway and the world of musical theater, writing, arranging, and conducting shows for theaters inNew York and around the country. A resident artist at theUcross Foundation , theInstituto Sacatar in Brazil, and theFundacion Valparaiso in Spain, he is the recipient of aGuggenheim Fellowship and theStephen Sondheim Award.In recent years, Barnes has begun working as a producer of theatrical and concert events. In New York, he produced both
Scott Joplin 's "Treemonisha " and Philip Glass's "The Juniper Tree" for theCollegiate Chorale atLincoln Center , and will produce the upcoming NY Premiere ofLeonard Bernstein 's "White House Cantata " atJazz at Lincoln Center . He is also the composer/producer for theNight Kitchen Radio Theater , onXM Satellite Radio , andSpokenWordAmerica.com , as well as Director ofOutpost Arts , a new digital music distribution company.Barnes lives in
