It was founded in 1835 as a settlement around Syuginsky glass works. After the October Revolution, it was renamed Sovetsky (Сове́тский), and later Krasny (Кра́сный). It was granted town status and given its present name in 1926.
Mozhga is an important industrial center of southwestern Udmurtia.

History
The base of the settlement related to the construction of a Syuginsky glass factory on the Syuga river in 1835. The plant was built by the merchant Theodore Chernov from Yelabuga and was known for the production of technical glass, jugs, figurines of animals. In 1859, 34 yards of the village population of 290 inhabitants on the Syugailka river working water mill. In 1916, around the factory settlement was built railway station Syuginskaya. After the October Revolution, it was renamed Sovetsky (Сове́тский), and later Krasny (Кра́сный). It was granted town status and given its present name in 1926.
Geography and climate
Location
The city is located in the southwest of the Udmurt Republic, at the confluence of the rivers and Syuga Syugailka, 81 km from the capital of Udmurtia, Izhevsk. Around Mozhga vast forests and deposits of quartz sand, which determined the choice of location at the base of the future city
