North Beach Road Length 6 km (4 mi) Direction Northwest-Southeast From West Coast Drive, North Beach via Carine, Karrinyup, Gwelup To Karrinyup Road, Gwelup Established 1920s Allocation State Route 77 Major junctions Marmion Avenue, Duffy Road, Balcatta Road, Erindale Road North Beach Road is a suburban distributor road in the inner northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. It is a single carriageway, with one lane in each direction for its entire length.
While the road today is minor and, at its coastal end, choked by roundabouts and other traffic-calming devices, it was one of the first roads in the area, originally built as a plank road serving tourists and holidaymakers staying in North Beach over the summer. It extended to Wanneroo Road along what is now Karrinyup Road and North Beach Drive. The construction in 2000 of Reid Highway (Mitchell Freeway to Marmion Avenue) just 300 metres north of North Beach Road effectively bypassed the road.
Until the 1960s, it was known as Balcatta Beach Road, even though the suburb was always known as North Beach.
