Perth, Western Australia . Traversing through the EastWanneroo area within theCity of Wanneroo , it is a regional road designed for the movement of heavy goods and freight from the state's north and from theNeerabup industrial area. The road formerly connected withOld Yanchep Road to meet Wanneroo Road again near the Yanchep Beach turnoff.2005 Realignment
In
2005 , the relevant local government body responsible for the road, theCity of Wanneroo , realised the importance of the road and the impact on residents in the adjoining suburbs of Banksia Grove, Carramar, Mariginiup, Neerabup and Tapping due to increased traffic [http://www.wanneroo.wa.gov.au/scripts/viewarticle.asp?NID=9499] . Funding for the realignment was an issue as the responsibility of construction fell to the developers of the adjoining Carramar Golf Course Estate, Peet and Co, and the original plans did not call for construction of this road until at least 2008-2009.In order to expedite construction and relieve traffic pressures, the city agreed to prefund construction of the realignment by the developer enabling it to be completed and opened midway through
2006 . Prior to the opening of this realignment however, the extension of Joondalup Drive fromWanneroo Road to Neaves Road was completed and opened to traffic. This in turn caused a large number of heavy vehicles coming from East Wanneroo to deviate through roads within the suburb of Banksia Grove to connect with Joondalup Drive. As a consequence of this, the city implemented an order to limit the types of vehicles allowed to pass through the suburb [http://www.wanneroo.wa.gov.au/scripts/viewarticle.asp?NID=10152] and imposed on-the-spot penalties of up to $A5,000 for offenders. The problems giving rise to these penalties may have occurred sooner if it was not for continued delays with the opening of Joondalup Drive, resulting from a number of disputes and issues between various local and state government agencies involved in the construction of the Joondalup Drive extension. The need for this order was removed when the city subsequently closed the portion of Pinjar Road south of the Joondalup Drive/Neaves Road intersection, and north of the Yandella Promenade (formerly Clarkson Avenue)/Pinjar Road intersection. The closed section of Pinjar Road (now renamed Mornington Drive and Greenvale Place) has been turned into a local road that can only be accessed via Tumbleweed Drive, Banksia Grove.
