The 2008 South Carolina United States Senate election will be held on
November 4 ,2008 . Republican SenatorLindsey Graham is seeking a second term. He is opposed by Democratic nomineeBob Conley . The race has been rated "Safe Republican" byCongressional Quarterly .Some of the positions that Graham has taken have put him at odds with his party and South Carolina constituents, and he was opposed in the Republican primary by Buddy Witherspoon, who Graham handily defeated on June 10th to secure the Republican nomination. On May 10th, the South Carolina
Working Families Party held a statewide nominating convention and for the first time nominated a candidate for statewide office: Michael Cone. As South Carolina allowselectoral fusion , Cone also ran to the Democratic Party nomination but lost to Conley. The Working Familes Party failed to confirm the nomination of Cone to the South Carolina Electorial Commission by the ballot deadline of September 5, 2008. Therefore, Cone will not appear on the ballot and the election will be a two person contest between Conley and Graham.
