An aggressive right-handed batsman, Tiwary has gained attention from selectors and fans through his strokeplay and high run scoring in Indian Domestic Cricket. Because of his front foot play and ability to attack the bowler by charging down the pitch, many have compared his batting style to England's Kevin Pietersen. Along with being a solid batsmen, he also bowls useful legspinners part-time and is athletic in the field.

Career
First Class
Tiwary plays domestic cricket for Bengal. His quick rise gained the attention of national selectors by just taking 14 games to score over 1000 runs, at an average of 56. He has a highest score of 210 not out but his best innings to date was arguably his match winning 151* in the 4th innings to give his side victory over Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy Super League semi final of 2006/07. Bengal lost to Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy final and Tiwary finished the campaign with 796 runs at 99.50 from his 7 matches. The season aggregate was the highest ever for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, going past of record of Arun Lal which was set in 1993-94.[1]
International
After India's failure at the 2007 World Cup, veteran players Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly were rested for India's tour of Bangladesh. Tiwary was named in the ODI squad, however he failed to make the playing eleven after sustaining an injury in training. He eventually made his debut against Australia in the 2008 Commonwealth Bank Tri-Series in which he scored only 2 runs in his only innings.He was later included in the India team for the West Indies tour of 2011, as a replacement for Yuvraj Singh, who opted out of the series due to a lung infection.Manoj Tiwary played the 4th and 5th ODI in the series.He later got picked for england's tour of india in october.he played the 5th ODI and got 24 runs.he also played the only T20 and scored 15 runs.
Indian Premier League
Tiwary was signed by the Delhi DareDevils of the Indian Premier League for a sum of USD 675,000. He was traded to the Kolkata Knight Riders in exchange for Moises Henriques before the 2010 IPL season. In the auction for 4th edition of the Indian Premier League, he was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a sum of USD 475,000.
