Cycle one of "Australia's Next Top Model" began airing on January 11, 2005 with 10 ladies to compete for the title. There was no international destination for this cycle. The season finale came from Melbourne, Australia.

The 10 finalists from around the country converge in Sydney where they spent eight weeks sharing an inner city apartment while competing for the title of Australia's Next Top Model.

Gemma Sanderson was the winner of the first season. The prize for winning the first series of "Australia's Next Top Model" was a contract with Chic Model Management, an all expenses paid trip to Milan to meet with Italian modeling agency, Fashion, an eight page editorial in "Cleo" magazine and she fronted a national campaign for Napoleon cosmetics for a year.

The Girl Who Makes A Poor Mark

The season premiere begins with the top ten girls from across Australia being greeted by host, Erika Heynatz, who leads them towards their first challenge. The girls soon meet Michael, their personal stylist and helper, who tells them that they're going to be strutting their stuff down the runway with an audience. The girls are handed the keys to their new Sydney Apartment and the girls soon arrive amidst screams and excitement.

For their photoshoot, the girls are fitted into bikinis and are taken down to the beach where some girls do exceptionally well while others flop.

During elimination Erika and the panel question Nicole on her eating habits. The bottom two are revealed to be Naomi and Nicole, and Naomi is sent home.

The girls have just started to get to know each other and already there is tension and bitch fights. The girls do a photo shoot on horse back. Nicole is eliminated because the judges feel that she wasn't emotionally ready to handle the modeling industry.

This week is all about body movement and body language. Alex Perry gives the girls critique and a few tips on their signature walks and poses on the runway. Later the girls also learn some skills in salesmanship as well as the art of being interviewed. Gemma breaks down and reveals that she suffers from depression. Shannon wins this week's challenge as the girl who gives the best interview and her prize is a visit from her boyfriend, Matt, who arrives just in time to see her in the arms of Olympic swimmer Geoff Huegill during this week's photoshoot. Shannon's stiffness and (lack of) height lands her in the bottom two but Zoe's lack of progression causes her to be the 5th girl eliminated from the competition.

Gemma, Chloe, Sam and Shannon do a photo shoot where they are nude except for some gold body foil. The girls are also given a challenge where they have AUS$200 and an hour in a mall to come up with an outfit that suits their personal style.

They also receive a lesson in dining matters, where some feel Sam is being fake and overly-polite and proper to impress the teacher.

Chloe wins the shopping challenge and picks Shannon to share her prize - a relaxing spa treatment including body mud and a massage. Samantha (Sam) was eliminated this episode because the judges felt she only had "one look" and her expression in photos was always the same.

Shannon, Gemma and Chloe do a beauty shoot for a cosmetics company and one girl is eliminated after her photo isn't as strong as the others. The two remaining girls then compete in two runway shows, and Australia's Next Top Model is crowned. The girls compete in two runway shows: Nicola Feneti and Zambizi. Chloe, Shannon and Gemma made it to the final three.Shannon was eliminated because of her mediocre final picture.

Gemma and Chloe competed in the final catwalk, it was Gemma, who was chosen to be Australia's (first) Next Top Model.
