The Vineland Research and Innovation Centre is a horticulture and floriculture research institution which operates as a cooperative effort between the province of Ontario's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, The University of Guelph and the University of Toronto. Rittenhouse of a farm of 90 acres at Vineland to the province of Ontario for the purpose of experimenting with tender fruits. The microclimate of this site has made it possible to grow impressive specimens of tender woody plant species including Ailanthus, Ilex and Pterocarya.
Vineland has been instrumental in the development and growth of the Ontario Wine Industry. It has also developed over 77 varieties of commercial fruit crops and over 42 varieties of horticultural ornamentals including several varieties of lilies and azaleas.
