- Bay Ridge Branch
The Bay Ridge Branch is a
rail line owned by theLong Island Rail Road and operated by theNew York and Atlantic Railway in theU.S. state ofNew York . It is the longest freight-only line of the LIRR, connecting theMontauk Branch andCSX Transportation 's Fremont Secondary (to theHell Gate Bridge ) at Glendale with theUpper New York Bay at Bay Ridge, where theNew York Cross Harbor Railroad operates rail-float barges toConrail 's Greenville Yard atGreenville, New Jersey . ACross-Harbor Rail Tunnel is proposed to replace this service.History
The first part of the line was opened by the
