The first South Brisbane station was constructed in
1884 near theBrisbane River , and was a terminal station for services on the southern side of the river until1978 . It was reconstructed at the present site on higher ground on21 December 1891 .In
1930 South Brisbane also became the site of the Interstate Station because it was the terminus of thestandard gauge railway fromSydney to Brisbane. The Interstate Station occupied land that is now used by theBrisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre .On
18 November 1978 the railway line was extended, via the Merivale Bridge from South Brisbane into Roma Street Railway Station on the opposite side of theBrisbane River .Adjacent attractions
