Carlsruhe was initially a sheep run established in August 1837 by Charles Hotson Ebden. Carlsruhe was the first rural property north of the
Port Phillip settlement. It was named afterKarlsruhe, Germany , where Charles Hotson Ebden received part of his education. Carlsruhe has a graveyard that has many tombstones dating back to the 19th century.A township was established in the 1850s and the Post Office opened on 1 September 1854 closed after a few months and reopened in 1858. When the railway arrived in 1862 Carlsruhe Railway Station office opened some distance away. They closed in 1958 and 1967.Citation
