- Ibanda District
Ibanda is a district of
Uganda created on1 July 2005 . It has a population of 198,043 according to a 2002 census. Formerly part ofMbarara District , it was created out of the former Ibanda county. It consists of sub-counties of Nyabuhikye, Bisheshe, Kichenche, Rukiri, Nyamarebe, Ishongorero and Ibanda town council.The district borders with Kamwenge district, Kiruhura district and Bushenyi district.Ibanda town, the seat of the District is connected to the National elctricity grid with a sub-station 4 miles out of Mbarara town. A tarmac road connects via Mbarara town to the capital Kampala.There is one major hospital, Ibanda hospital run by the Catholic mission in Kagongo ward. It caters for in and out-patients with a number of doctors. It is equipped with a theatre. The hospital also has a training section for enrolled mid-wives and nurses.Ruhoko health center IV is a government-run health unit with free medical services.Ibanda secondary school is the biggest males-only school in the district and Kibubura girls school for ladies.St. George's Ibanda core PTC is a primary school teacher training college. Quite a number of institutions are based in Kagongo ward.
