Vulcan's Thumb is a rotten stratovolcano [http://gsc.nrcan.gc.ca/volcanoes/cat/volcano_e.php?id=gvb_vth_027 Catalogue of Canadian volcanoes: Vulcan's Thumb] Retrieved on 2007-10-09] located directly on the southern ridge of Pyroclastic Peak. It is one of the five main volcanic peaks of Mount Cayley and remains unclimbed because of technical difficulties and its loose rock. Vulcan's Thumb is believed to have last erupted during the Pleistocene period.

The creation of Vulcan's Thumb consist of vent breccia, massive lava flows, and agglutinated breccia of plagioclase, hypersthene, hornblende, biotite, phyric dacite deposited as part of an edifice that raised upon the southwestern edge of the ancestral Mount Cayley.
