Rick Jones (television presenter)

Rick Jones (television presenter)

Rick Jones was one of the best-known faces on BBC children's television programmes during the 1960s and 1970s.

Canadian by birth, he began his TV career as a presenter of "Playschool", a daily programme for pre-school children, in which he played guitar and sang. In 1972, he became the star of "Fingerbobs" another popular show for younger children, in which Jones created characters from finger puppets made of paper.

He went to have success as a musician (keyboards/vocals) fronting the British country rock band Meal Ticket. Songs featuring Jones emotive voice include "Snow", "Last Port of Call", "Laughing Daughter". The song "Better Believe it Babe" featured as the theme for the BBC television Play for Today "The Flipside of Dominick Hide". After Meal Ticket broke up he wrote and appeared in the musical "Flash Fearless vs The Zorg Women" in Los Angeles. In 2001 he reunited with Meal Ticket for a one off gig at a London pub.

Rick is currently living in San Francisco with his wife Valerie. Amongst other projects Rick is working on is the collaboration with an old friend, Englishman Roger Penycate. They have almost completed the writing of a stage musical based on the songs and lyrics of Meal Ticket, written by Rick Jones and Dave Pierce entitled "Laughing Daughter" which may be produced initially in Virginia sometime in 2008.
