- Central Park (Burnaby)
Central Park is a 90-hectare urban park west of
Metrotown , on theVancouver -Burnaby border. It has been a Burnaby landmark since 1891. According to "The Greater Vancouver Book" (Editor in Chief: Chuck Davis)1, it was once a naval reserve set aside as a source of masts and spars for ships of theRoyal Navy . The park was named to honour Mrs.David Oppenheimer , the wife of Vancouver's second mayor, who was born inNew York City .Among its attractions are the award-winning children's playground, pitch and putt golf, and a couple of small ponds shared by ducks and remote-controlled boats. Wildlife in the park includes grey squirrels and coyotes.
Swangard Stadium , another Burnaby landmark, is located at the northwest corner of Central Park. The nearest SkyTrain station,
Patterson Station , is at the park's northeast corner. The main entrance to Central Park is off Kingsway near Patterson Avenue.
