- Central Valley Greenway
The Central Valley Greenway is a proposed 25-kilometre green
cycleway inGreater Vancouver , linkingNew Westminster with theStanley Park Seawall. Its route will pass through theFalse Creek flats, travel along Grandview Highway North fairly close to theMillennium Line , past Burnaby Lake, then follow theBrunette River to the Fraser.Along the way, it will connect with the
Trans Canada Trail and link to multiple destinations, communities, schools and workplaces. Similar to theGalloping Goose Regional Trail at the south end ofVancouver Island , the Greenway will provide a safe corridor for daily commuters, and a green route to local parks.Completion date
The Greenway was expected to be completed by March 2007, with certain sections to be upgraded or rerouted in the future. The expected completion date has now been pushed back to January 2009, as the project is being undertaken in three sections. The total cost of the Greenway is estimated to be approximately $17 million. Funding is being provided by the Federal Government
Transport Canada 's Urban Transportation Showcase Program,TransLink and the cities ofVancouver ,Burnaby andNew Westminster . It was also awarded a large grant from Vancity Credit Union.References
