Central Valley Greenway

Central Valley Greenway

The Central Valley Greenway is a proposed 25-kilometre green cycleway in Greater Vancouver, linking New Westminster with the Stanley Park Seawall. Its route will pass through the False Creek flats, travel along Grandview Highway North fairly close to the Millennium Line, past Burnaby Lake, then follow the Brunette River to the Fraser.

Along the way, it will connect with the Trans Canada Trail and link to multiple destinations, communities, schools and workplaces. Similar to the Galloping Goose Regional Trail at the south end of Vancouver Island, the Greenway will provide a safe corridor for daily commuters, and a green route to local parks.

Completion date

The Greenway was expected to be completed by March 2007, with certain sections to be upgraded or rerouted in the future. The expected completion date has now been pushed back to January 2009, as the project is being undertaken in three sections. Cost

The total cost of the Greenway is estimated to be approximately $17 million. Funding is being provided by the Federal Government Transport Canada's Urban Transportation Showcase Program, TransLink and the cities of Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster. It was also awarded a large grant from Vancity Credit Union.
