Banashankari (Kannada: ಬನಶಂಕರಿ) is a neighborhood in South
Bengaluru . It gets its name from the Banashankari Amma Temple on Kanakapura Road, one of Bengaluru's oldest and most famous temples, which was constructed by Subramanya Shetty in 1915.Banashankari is the largest locality in Bengaluru, extending all the way from
Mysore Road toKanakapura Road. It is bounded by Mysore road andGirinagar in the west,Basavangudi and Hanumanthanagar in the north,Jayanagar andJ.P. Nagar in the east, andPadmanabhanagar andUttarahalli in the south."Banashankari" is the only locality which has all the possible classifications - stage, phase and block. It is divided into 6 stages, with the 6th stage being the largest. Banashankari 2nd Stage is the home of the Bangalore "digital
baby boomer " families. The 4th, 5th and 6th stages are very new areas. They were formed by the BDA in the early 2000's and are located between Hosakerehalli andRajarajeshwari Nagar .Banashankari has one of the largest and most crowded BMTC bus stands in the city, located near the Banashankari Amma Temple. Most buses running on the Outer Ring Road, as well as on Kanakapura Road , originate or pass through this bus station.
