History
Mountain View High School opened in 1979 as the second high school in the greater Bend, Oregon, area [3]. It was the first new high school in the area since Bend High School opened in 1904, and the two schools remained the only traditional high schools in Bend until Summit High School opened in 2001 (Marshall High School is a magnet high school also located in Bend). [4] The school's first principal was Jack Harris; after his retirement in 1987, the school named the football stadium after him.[5] MVHS underwent major renovations in 2005 to expand the library and main offices. [6]
Their mascot is a Cougar. MVHS originally adopted Notre Dame University's fight song, but it is now based on that of Washington State University, whose mascot is also the cougar.[citation needed]
Academics
In 2008, 80% of the school's seniors received their high school diploma. Of 346 students, 278 graduated, 58 dropped out, 4 received a modified diploma, and 6 are still in high school.[7][8]
