List of characters in Bully

The following is a list of characters found in the 2006 Rockstar video game "Bully".

Name Contradictions

When "Bully" was first released, the great majority of the characters' last names were not known, and in the case of the Prefects, their first names weren't known as well. The release of the Bully Soundboard revealed the last names. However, in a few places it actually contradicted what was said in the game.

Before the game was released, the names of 18 students were released, and seven of these were profiled on the Bully Facebook. This page is written from the perspective that where the website and game differ, the game is considered more canonical.

Website/Game Discrepancies

*Tad Smith-Althorp Smith was one of the seven characters profiled on the Facebook. His last name was used to illustrate the Preppies tendency towards inbreeding. In the game, his name was changed to Tad Spencer for unknown reasons, but when the soundboard was released after the game came out, his last name was stated again as Smith-Althorp Smith.

*Ted, the Jock leader was one of the 18 named on the facebook, where he was Ted Sinclair. He was renamed Ted Thompson in the game, but when the Soundboard came out later, he was named Sinclair on it.

*On the Facebook, Ivan Alexander's picture is placed above Justin Vandervelde's name.

*Bif Taylor was named Bif Tremblay on the soundboard. To add to the confusion, Zoe, whose last name was not given in the game, was given the last name of Taylor on the soundboard.

*Cornelius Johnson, whose last name is heard announced over the PA system once, was renamed Cornelius Thomas on the Soundboard. The last name of Johnson was given to both Fatty and Karen, neither of whom were given last names in the game.

*Tom was named as Tom Gurney on the Soundboard, however, one of the townies already had Gurney as a first name.

*Edward Seymour III, one of the seven profiled characters, wasn't given a last name in the game, being credited as simply 'Edward'.

*Dan Wilson is said by Cornelius to be the older brother of the nerd Thad Carlson, but they have different last names on the soundboard and no last names given in the game.

*The townie Henry is credited as "Clint (aka Henry)". His name is displayed as Henry in "Bully", but he is referred to as Clint in some lines of dialog in "Bully: Scholarship Edition".Jimmy:Come on Clint, you know we're friends.cite video game|title=Bully|developer=Rockstar Vancouver|publisher=Rockstar Games|date=2006-10-17|platform=Playstation 2 ] .

Indeterminable Names

Although all the adult characters were given personalities and were credited by name in the game credits, there's currently no way to know which name goes with which character for the most part. The official guide states these adults' name in it, and others can be deduced from in-game dialog.

The same was true of the Townie kids, however, they could be hired by Jimmy, and their names were displayed when they were.

Main Characters

James "Jimmy" Hopkins is a 15 year old boy and the main protagonist of "Bully". Jimmy comes from a troubled background, having been evicted from several schools previously for a wide variety of offenses, including but not limited to, vandalism, violent conduct, and disrespecting faculty. His mother hasn't exactly been helpful. An often-remarried woman, she recently married a man who is twice the age of Jimmy's maternal grandfather , whom Jimmy described as a "rich old phony". There is no mention of Jimmy's birth father, and many fans have speculated that his abscence may have caused Jimmy to be a delinquent. Jimmy's mother and new stepfather leave for a year long honeymoon cruise, dumping him at Bullworth. Bullworth is Jimmy's last chance to avoid juvenile detention, and familiar with its nasty reputation, Jimmy prepares himself for the worst - which happens almost immediately, as three of the Bullies accost him before he even makes it to the school building. From then on, Jimmy has to fight his way up the pecking order at Bullworth.

Jimmy was designed to be an 'everykid'. Lead Producer of "Bully", Jeronimo Barerra, claimed that what he wanted to do with "Bully" was to recreate the state of being a kid, and to make it fun. Parallels were also made between Jimmy and Holden Caulfield, the main character of "Catcher in the Rye". Jimmy and Holden share a background of being a difficult homelife and being thrown out of multiple private schools. To a large extent, Jimmy's personality within the game depends on the player controlling him. While his actions in the cutscenes are predetermined, Jimmy can deal with situations in different ways. For example, he can order other bullies to leave their victims alone, or he can bully the other kids himself. He can also pay off bullies to leave him alone, or start fights for no reason. Jimmy can also opt to kiss certain students, both boys and girls, although the only character he shows more than just a passing love interest in is Zoe Taylor. He is voiced by Gerry Rosenthal.

The main antagonist of the game, [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Gary_Smith Gary] is described by other characters as a sociopath.Algernon: So you're the new kid huh? everyone is talking about you
Jimmy: Oh are they? And what are they saying?
Algernon: Nothing... just that you are friends with that sociopath Gary. cite video game|title=Bully|developer=Rockstar Vancouver|publisher=Rockstar Games|date=2006-10-17|platform=Playstation 2 ] He admits that he suffers from ADD, though this is probably his most minor of mental disorders. He considers himself smarter and better than everyoneGary: I'm a genius! Geniuses don't NEED medication! cite video game|title=Bully|developer=Rockstar Vancouver|publisher=Rockstar Games|date=2006-10-17|platform=Playstation 2 ] , and wants to run the school. He is paranoid of anyone he feels might challenge his authority, even if they show no desire to do so. Gary's background can only be guessed at from comments made by various townspeople. One derelict old woman claims acquaintance with his mother and speaks poorly of her, and an elderly citizen in town shares Gary's last name and complains about the state of his family.

Gary is the first student to introduce himself to Jimmy, and the two form a friendship. However, shortly after Halloween, Gary stops taking his medications. Fueled by ambition and paranoia, he turns on Jimmy, leading him into a trap and forcing him to fight Russell while accusing him of plotting against him. He then attempts where possible to start trouble between Jimmy and the other cliques at Bullworth. He first sabotages Jimmy's relationship with the Preppies by claiming Jimmy said bad things about them. He is later seen with the Greasers, helping them find Algernon. He isn't seen after that until the final battle, but his presence is felt from behind the scenes as the lies Gary tells about Jimmy frequently drives the plot forward. A cutscene from one of the trailers that was removed from the game showed him in winter clothing laughing about "young love", [ [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXZWI7Fm5HU "Bully" trailer] on YouTube] . Towards the end of the school year, he manages to turn all the cliques in Bullworth against both Jimmy and each other. He then convinces the Townies to start an open war against all the school kids. Gary is the "final boss" of the game, and is expelled from Bullworth after being defeated by Jimmy in a vicious fight on the school roof. He is voiced by Peter Vack.

Peter "Pete" Kowalski (also sometimes known as "Petey") is a shy, smaller than average student who has trouble fitting in with any group and making friends.Petey: I'm too cool to be a dork, but too dorky to be anything else. cite video game|title=Bully|developer=Rockstar Vancouver|publisher=Rockstar Games|date=2006-10-17|platform=Playstation 2 ] . Pete is the second student to introduce himself to Jimmy, and becomes the closest thing to a friend Jimmy has at Bullworth. The two of them and Gary form a friendship of sorts, although Gary picks on Pete constantly.

When Gary turns on Jimmy, Pete stays loyal to Jimmy and continues to for the rest of the school year. While he doesn't have physical capabilities matching Jimmy's, he has a good tactical mind, and his advice helps Jimmy defeat both the Preppie and Greaser cliques. However, Jimmy rarely invites Pete to go along with him on his adventures, and considers him a dork, which bothers him a lot. Jimmy repays Pete's friendship in the end, however, by convincing Dr. Crabblesnitch to make him Head Boy. He is voiced by Matt Bush.

The pompous principal of Bullworth Academy and all-around killjoy, Crabblesnitch believes that "rehabilitating" problem children is his calling in life. Crabblesnitch was originally introduced as the main nemesis,cite web|url=http://ps2.ign.com/articles/725/725852p1.html |title=Meet Crabblesnitch, Bully Nemesis |accessdate 2007-03-17 |last=Dunham |first=Jeremy |date= 2006-08-16 |publisher=ign.com ] a corrupt, authoritarian bully. The character was changed by the time the game was released, leaving Crabblesnitch more self-righteous and oblivious than malignant. Crabblesnitch is quite uncorrupt, but he is oblivious, referring to all the bullying taking place as "school spirit". He also refuses to hear bad about his staff, even expelling Zoe for complaining about Mr Burton hitting on her. He does, however, take appropriate action when confronted with undeniable truth, and he fires both Mr. Burton and Mr. Hattrick over the course of the game. Crabblesnitch was a prefect while he attended school. On graduating he became the new History teacher, and worked his way up the ladder until he got the job of Principal.

The hulking leader of the Bullies, Russell has reddish brown-hair cut in a bowl cut, behavior and speech problems, and incredible strength. He's the biggest student in the game, bigger than the prefects and even some adults. He seems to be a bully partly because he doesn't understand what's wrong with it.Jimmy: I want you to stop bullying weak kids.
Russell: Uh, why?
Jimmy: Because there's a bunch of kids in this school who need a beating, and you're picking on the few that don't! So I want you to leave me and him (points to Petey) alone.
Russell: Oh... okay. During some cutscenes, he exhibits some ape-like behavior such as beating his chest. Although Russell can be busted by the prefects in the game, cutscenes also show him able to intimidate not only the prefects, but some adults as well. His family has a house in Old Bullworth Vale, a predominantly old money area.

A feisty, redheaded, tomboy girl who shares many of Jimmy's traits. She's quick to get angry and fight,Zoe: What're you lookin' at?

She was a former student at Bullworth, but was expelled when she complained about Mr. Burton hitting on her. She and Jimmy meet right before he's expelled from Bullworth himself. After initially arguing, they get revenge on Mr. Burton by knocking a port-a-potty he was using down a steep hill, becoming friends in the process. She also helps Jimmy track down Edgar in a later mission. She and Jimmy go on a date, although her idea of a date is smashing up the Spencer Shipping warehouse. The game's final cut scene ends with her and Jimmy kissing, and over the summer she is re-enrolled at Bullworth.

Cliques

Bullies

The Bullies don't care about the pecking order on campus like the other cliques do, and don't have a particular place in the pecking order at Bullworth. They consider the Nerds their enemies and while they torment them constantly, they happily pick on the non-clique students and little kids as well. They sometimes attend class, but mainly hang out at the parking lot in school where they attack any nerd and non-clique student on sight. They wear untucked white shirts, blue jeans, and many have acne, bruises, or other blemishes on their foreheads. Ironically all of them, apart from their leader Russell, are poor fighters.

Aside from their leader, Russell, the Bullies don't seem to have much in the way of ranks within their clique. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Trent_Northwick Trent Northwick] is a blonde-haired aspiring actor and is unashamedly bisexual. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Troy_Miller Troy Miller] has a hoarse voice and intense love for violence, and he bullies others because he finds it amusing. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Davis_White Davis White] likes to torment freshmen and claims that he made one student drop out, [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Wade_Martin Wade Martin] blames his parents for his bullying habits, and [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Ethan_Robinson Ethan Robinson] is a bully due to his enthusiasm for fighting in general and ninjas in particular. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Tom_Gurney Tom Gurney] , who has a permanent black eye and a New York accent, is the last member of the clique. The Bullies are the only clique without a female member, and are also the only students who do not turn against Jimmy during the events of Chapter 5.

Nerds

The Nerds are, as their clique name implies, a group of stereotypical Nerds. Overweight or underweight, possessive of poor grooming and social skills, and bespectacled to the last man, the Nerds are at the bottom of the pecking order at Bullworth Academy. They are the sworn enemies of the Bullies and Jocks and are hounded by members of those cliques constantly. They are the only clique to regularly attend classes, and they congregate in the Bullworth Library and the Dragon's Wing Comic Book Store outside of class. They wear green sweaters.

The Nerds are notoriously poor fighters, and are easily overpowered in hand-to-hand combat. However, to make up for their weak fighting skill, they are far more likely to utilize weapons during fights, allowing them to neutralize an adversary at a distance.

The leader of the Nerds is [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Earnest_Jones Earnest Jones] . Earnest is extremely intelligent and well groomed by Nerd standards, but something of a pervert. Early in the year he hires Jimmy to protect him during a speech in the school presidential elections. Later in the year, he enlists Jimmy in complicated plans to humiliate the Jocks. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Algernon_Papadopoulos Algernon "Algie" Papadopoulos] is one of the most tormented students on campus, he is a mummy's boy and is known for his weak bladder. He is considered to be the least popular student in the entire school - even by the Principal.

The other nerds are [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Melvin_O'Connor Melvin O'Connor] , a chubby "Grottoes and Gremlins" fanatic who spends so much time playing RPGs that he is losing his touch with reality. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Donald_Anderson Donald Anderson] is undersized and bitter. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Thad_Carlson Thad Carlson] speaks with a lisp and is fixated on yardsticks. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Fatty_Johnson Fatty Johnson] is notorious for his terrible body odor. The last two members of the clique are [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Bucky_Pasteur Bucky Pasteur] , and [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Cornelius_Johnson Cornelius Johnson] (no relation to Fatty). The female member is [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Beatrice_Trudeau Beatrice Trudeau] , an emotionally fragile girl who dreams of going to med school and finding a cure for cancer, or becoming a brain surgeon.

Preppies

The Preppies can be recognized by their light blue 'Aquaberry' uniforms and generally tidy, formal appearance. They are rich snobs, and are obsessed with keeping up with their high social class, many taking up faux-British pretensions for this reason, and some of their families practice inbreeding, which they refer to as keeping the "good blood" pure. The Preppies sometimes attend class, but spend most of their time roaming the town of Old Bullworth Vale and hanging out in "Harrington House", a private building similar to fraternity house solely for the Preppies' use. They are all trained pugilists.

The leader of the Preppies is [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Derby_Harrington Derby Harrington] (pronounced "Darby"). Derby's father is the school's biggest benefactor, and as a result, a special building known as the Harrington House was created exclusively for the Preppies. Derby is a manipulator in the same way that Gary Smith is, although he doesn't have any interest in running the school. He is rarely seen without [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Bif_Taylor Bif Taylor] , the Preppies' boxing champion. Bif is large, strong, and one of two Preppies that doesn't have faux-British pretensions.

However, he suffers from the inbreeding common in the Preppies severely, and the Preppies are turned against Jimmy when Gary claims that Jimmy made fun of Tad for it. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Parker_Ogilvie Parker Ogilvie] is the other Preppie without faux-British pretensions, and occasionally expresses mild remorse for his arrogance and misdeeds. The other Preppies are [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Gord_Vendome Gord Vendome] , [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Justin_Vandervelde Justin Vandervelde] , [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Bryce_Montrose Bryce Montrose] and [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Chad_Morris Chad Morris] . Chad owns a bulldog named Chester who has a habit of biting people. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Pinky_Gauthier Pinky Gauthier] is the girl in the clique, and is Derby Harrington's cousin. She was betrothed to Derby, but dumped him for Jimmy after he was three minutes late for a date. She is attractive, but also very spoiled and has a significant princess complex.

Greasers

As their name implies, the Greasers are 1950's-style throwbacks, who have slicked back hair and wear leather or denim jackets. With the exception of Norton, who is black, their last names are mostly Italian-American in origin. The Greasers are enemies with the Preppies. They loiter around the school's Auto Repair Shop, or in New Coventry, the rundown section of town, where they can be seen harassing the townfolk.

The Greasers are headed by [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Johnny_Vincent Johnny Vincent] . Johnny is hot tempered and perpetually concerned about the fidelity of his girlfriend, [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Lola_Lombardi Lola Lombardi] - for good reason. Lola dresses in tight leather with leopard print, uses her looks and sexual confidence to manipulate many different students into doing what she wants. Her dalliances with the Preppie Gord start a war between the Preppies and Greasers.

The Greasers clique does not have a clear second in command. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Peanut_Romano Peanut Romano] is very concerned about Johnny's whereabouts and safety and acts as a messenger for Johnny, but the other Greasers are frequently seen following the orders of [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Norton_Williams Norton Williams] when Johnny isn't present. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Ricky_Pucino Ricky Pucino] looks very much like Peanut, and at one point he helps Jimmy retrieve a bike racing trophy he won from some Preppies that stole it. The other Greasers are [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Lefty_Mancini Lefty Mancini] , [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Lucky_DeLuca Lucky DeLuca] , [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Vance_Medici Vance Medici] and [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Hal_Esposito Hal Esposito] . Hal is one of very few students aside from the nerds to be overweight, but he doesn't seem bothered by it. He threatens to sit on people when he fights.

There are many references to "The Outsiders" in various lines of Greaser dialogue and story events that they take part in. There are many parallels between the Greasers of The Outsiders and the Greasers of Bully, such as Lefty's scar mirroring Johnny Cade's, Norton saying "Stay gold, Ponyboy!" and a large scale fight between the Greasers and Preppies being called The Rumble.

Jocks

The so-called "kings of the school", the Jocks are Bullworth's most athletic students and are all part of the school football team, the Bullworth Bullhorns. They are also the clique highest in the pecking order, and are sworn enemies of the Nerds. They call the gym, pool, and football field their turf, and will attack any nerd they see there. Varsity Jocks wear letterman jackets. The lower ranking Jocks wear letterman sweaters.

Handsome, misogynistic and somewhat unintelligent, he is rarely seen without [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Damon_West Damon West] . Damon isn't just a linebacker on the Bullhorns, but a state ranked wrestler as well, and an All American athlete. He has an aggressive nature and has a strong tendency to repeat what Ted says.

Many of the Jocks are large bruisers. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Juri_Karamazov Juri Karamazov] is a foreign student with an Eastern European accent who prefers wrestling to football and who had trouble reading the word "President". [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Casey_Haris Casey Harris] and [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Luis_Luna Luis Luna] are also large, and it's implied that steroids provided by the gym coach Mr. Burton are the reason. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Bo_Jackson Bo Jackson] has no relation to the sports star of the same name. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Dan_Wilson Dan Wilson] and [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Kirby_Olsen Kirby Olsen] are both small. Dan is heavily implied to be a former nerd and is in fact the older brother of the nerd Thad. Kirby is the youngest student in Bullworth history to earn a varsity letter, and is also a closeted bisexual. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Mandy_Wiles Mandy Wiles] is the head cheerleader of the Bullworth Bullhorns. She considers herself the most popular girl at Bullworth, but is very insecure, and routinely picks on Beatrice to make herself feel better. She takes kindly to Jimmy after he helps her deal with some embarrassing posters of her that the Nerds put up around town.

Constantinos Brakus, despite technically being a non-clique student, is the Bullworth Bullhorns mascot. He's a very bitter and sour person, and a self-proclaimed pessimist. He has to put up with mockery from the Jocks while in the mascot outfit, and they also force him to be the target when they play Penalty Shots. This probably contributes significantly to his bleak outlook on life.

Townies

The Townies are the kids native to Bullworth's blue collar areas that could not afford to enter the school or were kicked out, forming a clique equivalent to the ones at Bullworth Academy. While they can be found prowling most anywhere in the town, they mainly hang out near Blue Skies Industrial Park or in the graveyard behind Old Bullworth Vale. They wear casual clothing with the color orange featured predominantly, and most of them have a distinct heavy metal or punk-like fashion influence in their outfits. They harbor a bitter resentment of Bullworth Academy, and will attack almost every student that they spot.

Early in the development of the game the Townies were all dropouts of Bullworth Fact|date=February 2008, and are sometimes referred to as such, however, only one townie, Jerry, actually claims openly that he dropped out of Bullworth. Another townie, Duncan, claims that he dropped out of school due to being bullied, possibly by Davis White. Some of their last names are unknown as they did not appear in the Bullworth Yearbook.

[http://bullygame.wikia.com/Duncan Duncan] is into the tabletop RPG Grottoes and Gremlins (because you can "kill things and take their stuff"), [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Jerry Jerry] brags about his intelligence constantly, and Leon is a slacker who dreads having to get a job. [http://bullygame.wikia.com/Clint_aka_Henry Clint/Henry] is mean-spirited and appears mentally unbalanced, and he had an extended in-game role in "Bully: Scholarship Edition". Zoe Taylor is the girl associated with the clique.

Other students and School Authority

Non Clique Students

Not all of the students at Bullworth are affiliated with any of the five cliques. Non-clique students wear dark teal uniforms. They tend to be friendly to Jimmy, except at a point in the game's storyline when the entire school has turned against him. Even then, they are typically unconfrontational, and will only fight if attacked. A handful of them are significantly younger than most of the other students. Prefects

The Prefects are the primary law enforcement of Bullworth Academy. They are all large students, but oddly are not featured in the yearbook. They can be found constantly roaming the campus and the main building. The highest ranking prefect is Seth Kolbe, who is in charge of supervising students on detention. The others are Edward Seymour III, Karl Branting, and Max McTavish. All of them will frequently verbally abuse other students, and will respond to infractions of the rules with physical force. Seth has anger management issues and is obsessed with beating people, Edward is poised to take over his family business, Max aspires to a career in the armed forces or the police force, and Karl constantly complains that the school needs more discipline.

*Mr. Luntz - Sanitation engineer.
*Edna - The school cook.
*Nurse MacRae - School Nurse
*Mrs. Peabody - Girls' Dorm hall monitor.
*Ms. Carvin - Librarian
*Ms. Peters "(Scholarship Edition only)" - Music teacher.
*Mr. Matthews "(Scholarship Edition only)" - Geography teacher.
