The village is split up into 2 parts: the west part, Little Crakehall, and the east part, Great Crakehall. Nearby villages include Hackforth and Langthorne.
A round barrow at grid reference SE235886, 540 m south west of the Bay Horse Inn, is a scheduled ancient monument.[1]
