The University of Sulaimani is a university located in Sulaymani, Iraqi Kurdistan Region. Sulaimani Universityis one of the important scientific and cultural centers in Kurdistan. It was founded in 1968. It was transferred by the Ba'ath Regime because of the political activities that were done against the regime. But after the uprising it was refounded with a decision which was made by the Kurdistan Parliament in 1992. This university is the mother of other universities in Kurdistan. It is the oldest University in Kurdistan proper, therefore, it has its own significance in the history of Kurdistan.Sulaimani University consists of 18 different colleges and scientific departments.Apart from this university, there are many technical, medical, and fine arts institutes in Sulaimani.In the city of Sulaimani, the first kidney transplant operation from a living donor kidney was successfully performed by a transplant team in Shoresh General Hospital on the 7th of June 2008 "Ref1&2".
