The American University of Iraq - Sulaimani (AUI-S) is a new addition to the American universities in the Middle East, opening its first classes in October 2007. It is located in the city of Sulaimani in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It is currently open to receive both undergraduate and graduate applications on a rolling admissions basis.

The AUIS is a non-profit institution of higher education following the American model of undergraduate and graduate education in the Middle East. The university anticipates admitting a maximum of 250 new students each academic year. The initial offerings will include the BBA in Management and Policy Studies and BS in Computer Systems and IT.

Tuition fees at the American University of Iraq - Sulaimani range from $8,500 to $10,000 a year.. The university does, however, have plans to provide student loans and scholarships.

On August 22, 2007, the AUIS accepted its first student Bayad Jamal Ali, a male Kurdish graduate of Shourish High School (2007) for the program of Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Policy Studies.
