Year One

The term "Year One" in political history usually refers to the institution of radical, revolutionary change. This usage dates from the time of the French Revolution: after the abolition of the French monarchy (September 20, 1792), the National Convention instituted the new French Revolutionary Calendar, declaring that date as the beginning of the Year I of the French Republic.

Use by DC Comics

Frank Miller adopted this term for his highly praised comic book storyarc "" ("Batman" 404-407) retelling the Batman origin story in the Post-Crisis DC Universe. This comic firmly established the expression which DC Comics later used in various other comic books such as "JLA: Year One" and "Nightwing: Year One". In 2007, DC expanded the "Year One" title and began consistently producing new "Year One" comics starting with "Green Arrow: Year One".
