Foundation University, Islamabad, is a modern Pakistani university which was granted charter in 2002. It is a Federal State University with its headquarters in Islamabad, while its three institutions are located in Rawalpindi. The institutions include Foundation University Institute of Management and Computer Sciences (FUIMCS) formerly known as Fauji Foundation Institute of Management and Computer Sciences (FFIMCS), Foundation University Medical College (FUMC) formerly known as Fauji Foundation Medical College (FFMC) and Foundation University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (FUCLAS). It is run by the Fauji Foundation, the foundation for the ex-service army personnel in Pakistan.

In a university category list issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in 2005, Foundation University was placed in the "A" category, along with other top universities of Pakistan such as LUMS, NUST, FAST,IIUI etc.

Foundation University Institute of Management and Computer Sciences

FUIMCS was established in 1998, as FFIMCS, and consists of three Faculties i.e. Engineering, IT and Management Sciences. FUIMCS was one of the few Pakistani institutes offering Bachelors in Software Engineering. In 2005, FUIMCS became the first institute in Pakistan whose Software Engineering degree was accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

The institute is headed by Professor Dr. Aftab, a well known academician of Pakistan known for his contributions in Computer Science Departments in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) Topi, FAST Islamabad Campus (as founder) and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

The Institute offers a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD Degrees, which are as follows.

Foundation University Medical College (FUMC)

The Foundation University Medical College was established in 2001. It has state of the art lecture halls, labs, museums, dissection hall, equipment and computer cell. The college faculty consists of highly qualified and experienced teachers.FUMC is recognized by the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) and approved by WHO/HQ for inclusion in World Directory Medical Schools(WDMS). The college is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) and is a member of International Association of Medical Regulatory Authority (IAMRA).

Foundation University College of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Foundation University College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is a constituent faculty of Foundation University. Before becoming part of the University it was functioning as Teacher Training Institute, focusing on providing training to in-service teachers.

FUCLAS is the first institution of its kind in Pakistan to promote quality education in humanities and social sciences. It attracts students from diverse backgrounds to study Undergraduate and Graduate courses in social sciences. The College is also committed to promote research and offers MPhil and PhD in various disciplines.

The faculty of ‘FUCLAS’ consists of the following four academic departments:

* Department of Research and Development: Academic & Professional Development of Faculty, Consultancy, Training and Counseling
* Department of Undergraduate Studies
