Stari Lec (Стари Лец) is a
village inSerbia . It is situated in thePlandište municipality , in theSouth Banat District ,Vojvodina province. The village has aSerb ethnic majority and its population numbering 1,094 people (2002 census).Name
In Serbian, the village is known as "Stari Lec" (Стари Лец), in German as "Alt Letz", and in Hungarian as "Óléc".
History
Settlement was first mentioned in 1333. During Ottoman conquest in the 16th century, the settlement was destroyed, but it was later rebuilt since source dating from 1660/66 mention the village of "Lec" that was populated by
Serbs . In 1838, the village was populated byBanat Bulgarians , and, in 1839 its population numbered 426 inhabitants. During 19th century,Hungarians ,Germans , andSlovaks settled in the village as well. AfterWorld War I , the new Serb settlers came to the village. In 1921, the population of the village numbered 1,011 inhabitants, including 426Hungarians , 290Germans , 138Serbs , 29Slovaks , and 97 otherSlavs . AfterWorld War II , as a consequence of the war events, the German population fled from the village and it was then populated by new Serb and Macedonian settlers.Ethnic groups (2002 census)
