Fortaleza Esporte Clube, usually known as Fortaleza or Fortaleza EC, is primarily a football club, but is active in other sports such as futsal, handball and basketball. Fortaleza EC is based in Fortaleza, capital of the State of Ceará, Brazil. The club was founded on October 18, 1918, emerged from an earlier club called Stella, under the name Fortaleza Sporting Club.[1]

Fortaleza EC is one of the most traditional clubs in the Northeastern region of Brazil alongside EC Bahia, Vitória, Santa Cruz, Sport, Náutico and Ceará SC.

Biggest rivals are from the same city: Ceará SC and Ferroviário.

Club colours are red, blue and white.

Main site is Alcides Santos Stadium, with capacity for 4,000 people, but the team also plays in Castelão, which is up about 60 326 supporters and Estádio Presidente Vargas, which had a 22 500 capacity, and is now undergoing refurbishment.
