History

McDowall formed Poems, an art-punk trio, in 1978 with his wife Rose McDowall, whom he later divorced. During the 80s McDowall was a member of Psychic TV. McDowall performed with Coil regularly for several years, becoming an official member in 1995. McDowall wrote a song as Screwtape, released in 1998. McDowall currently is a member of the group Captain Sons & Daughters. He also collaborates with Tres Warren of Psychic Ills on a project called Compound Eye. McDowall also tour-managed The Shamen.

McDowall met Nicole Dorsey while recording in New Orleans in November 1997, while working on the never-to-be-released Backwards Coil session at Trent Reznor's Nothing Studios. They married in February 1998. Their wedding took place at the New Orleans Opera House and the music was provided by DJ [Al] Friede, a former boyfriend of Dorsey and also the owner of the infamous 80's/Goth/Industrial venue The Angel Club [1996-1997]. McDowall and Dorsey divorced in 2008. McDowall has a daughter, Keri, from his marriage with Rose McDowall. He lives in New York City.
